Stuffed Tomatoes (Bharwan Tamatar)

Tomatoes make a colourful, zesty addition to any menu. Here’s a healthy and very delicious stuffed tomato recipe perfectly apt for the religious fasts. The recipe is completely vegetarian full of nutritious ingredients to provide you energy during the vrat.

You can prepare stuffed tomatoes (bharwan tamatar) in following ways:

 

stuffed tomatoA. Stuffed tomato in heavy bottomed karai (wok)

  1. Grease the karai or wok.
  2. Place the tomatoes filled with the mixture in it.
  3. Add ¼ teaspoon rock salt (sendha namak) and 1 tablespoon ghee on top of tomatoes. Cover the karai and cook on low flame.
  4. Turn after 3-4 minutes. Cook until soft.
  5. Take out in a separate dish or bowl. Garnish with green coriander and grated cheese.
  6. Stuffed tomatoes are ready to be served.

 

B. Stuffed tomatoes in microwave

  1. Place the stuffed tomatoes in a glass bowl and add ¼ teaspoon rock salt (sendha namak) and 1 tablespoon ghee on the top. Cover and set microwave for 5 minutes.
  2. Check the tomatoes and cook for some more time if they are not soft.
  3. Take out in a separate dish or bowl. Garnish with green coriander and grated cheese.
  4. Stuffed tomatoes cooked in microwave are ready to be served when soft.

  1. Preheat oven to 200 degree centigrade.
  2. Grease the oven tray.
  3. Place the tomatoes on the tray.
  4. Mix ¼ teaspoon salt and 1 tablespoon ghee and spread on the tomatoes.
  5. Grill for 8 minutes or until till soft.
  6. Take out in a separate dish or bowl. Garnish with green coriander and grated cheese.
  7. Stuffed tomatoes prepared in oven are ready to be served.
