With only a month left for Diwali, I have become really busy shopping for clothes, gift items and many other things that I would share with my friends and relatives. The markets are crowded and the aroma of festivity is in the air. All these remind me of my childhood days. But at times I had to stay inside the house to avoid any accidents while burning crackers. I too loved to burn them and watch other bursting crackers, but my mother would often ask me to stay indoors as I had met with an accident previously. While bursting crackers I went too close to it, and it burst on my hands burning them badly and I had to be rushed to the nearby hospital.
In this blog I will share with you some important tips that can keep your child safe during this Diwali.
Fire safety:
Wear cotton clothes: Kids look really good when wearing a silk ghagra choli or kurta, but these clothes can become great causes of accidents. So while bursting crackers, make sure that your children wear only cotton clothes that are not too long. Since satin, silk, chiffons are easily inflammable, avoid these clothes.
Avoid wearing clumsy clothes: It is always a good idea to make your kids wear simple western clothes instead of traditional ones. Dupattas, stoles or long skirts are uncomfortable and make the movement clumsy. Make your kids wear any fancy clothes during the Puja but when they are enjoying fireworks, make then wear something that is not too loose or makes them uncomfortable to move.
Avoid dangerous crackers: There are many rockets that produce beautiful effect in the sky, but you should choose proper fireworks as a wrong cracker may cause great accidents. So while purchasing them ensure that they are from legal manufactures and carefully read the instruction before bursting them.
Instruct your children: Before allowing your children to burn crackers, educate them how to use the fireworks so that they can use it appropriately. They should never burst firecrackers in a closed area, so take them to open spaces to avoid any kinds of accidents. Don’t leave them alone when they are bursting crackers and supervise them while they have fun.
Keep a first aid box handy: A first aid kit should always be kept handy so that in case of any minor accidents or injury, you can treat them immediately at home. Place a bucket of water near the place where your kids are burning crackers.
Food safety
Diwali is a festival when people prepare lots of sweets at home and even buy from shops to offer their friends and relatives. Kids love to eat different sweets and special dishes during festivals. But keep in mind that many sweet shops to make more profits during this time sell synthetic milk, khoya and sweet, which are harmful for health. So it is better to buy dry fruits and sweets from only reputed shops and stores and avoid purchasing sweets from anywhere. Always ask your kids to wash their hands before eating anything as sulphur or any other chemicals from firecrackers are harmful for health.
So follow the above tips carefully and enjoy a happy and safe Diwali with your kids!
