Don’t be panic every minute: The first year with your newborn may be the most difficult time and it is natural that parents often go on an anxiety with even the smallest stuff, but try not to fuss over the well being of your baby. Being panic about your baby will only make your life worse. Try to understand your baby’s needs and behavior. Take regular appointments with the pediatrician to reduce your woes and seek only expert opinion.

Let your infant cry it out: When your baby starts to cry, you may try to pacify him. At times you may not be able to identify what is wrong as your baby is perfectly fine, has clean diapers, completely rested and even well fed. You have to understand that and let your baby cry it out sometimes, but if he cries for more than an hour and has fever, rashes or vomiting then it’s time to call your pediatrician.

Not focusing on your own health: Once you have this brand new family member in your life, you only consider the baby whose health and everything is very important to you. But this does not mean that you will neglect yourself. If you had birth complications or a c-section, it is vital to take care of your health and recover soon. You will need extra rest, nutritious food and lots of liquids to remain healthy.

Expecting a strict sleep routine: Your sleep may now depend on the baby’s sleeping schedule and you may not manage long hours of sleep every night. Your baby may have his own schedule of sleeping through the night. He may keep awake at times or may have long hours of sleep so do not expect your newborn to maintain a schedule as 50% kids do wake up at night till two years of age.

Wrapped too tightly: Babies when wrapped up properly helps them to have a good sleep and do not wake up in jerks.  But some parents tend to wrap up their baby with too much layers of clothes especially at night. This can result to overheating and often increases the risk of cot death. It is recommended to keep the temperature of the room comfortable and ensure that the baby is not loaded with clothes. The baby’s head should not remain covered while sleeping.

Not taking help from anyone: Before you had a baby, you probably avoided taking help from others and turned them down politely for any help they offered. But with a newborn many things will change. And it is time to accept their help for a good nap, good food and of course a drink to remain hydrated.
